Statement of Respect and Inclusion

Games in action: interactivity / activation \ activism is a conference which brings together scholars, practitioners, creators, and students from diverse academic, professional, and personal backgrounds, ways of learning, and communicating on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people. This diversity is an intellectual asset that can benefit from common principles of critical thinking and collegiality. Non-sexist, non-racist, non-homophobic, non-transphobic and non-heterosexist language is expected in conference discussions and interactions.

As the host committee we are committed to creating a respectful learning and working environment that supports inclusion based on the principles of equity, diversity, Indigeneity and social justice. We are seeking to create a space that is free from harassment and violence, physical or otherwise. We are committed to providing accessible, usable, and welcoming spaces for conference participants with disabilities, members of racialized communities, trans and gender-diverse peoples, regardless of their age, neurotype, income, physical appearance, body size, education, social status, religion or spiritual practice, ethno-linguisticity, nationality and citizenship status. We hope attendees come with a generous spirit, a deep sense of ethics, and a genuine enthusiasm for the work we will all be doing together.

Please reach out to conference organizers with any specific accommodations, needs, and requests. We cannot promise to solve every issue, but we will try our best.

Content Warning

As a conference focused on video games and social justice, speakers may raise controversial issues. Conference participants are expected to treat each other respectfully in all interactions. Disagreements can occur among participants without being disagreeable and offensive. The conference will be a space for engaging and confronting difference: different ideas, norms, experiences, and ways of being. As these differences are sometimes lived and articulated through histories of violence, this conference will be discussing topics and exhibiting media that may be difficult for some participants.
